Django in June presents Serge Krief and Tim Kliphuis

Saturday, June 17 at 7:30 pm

Django in June is New England’s premiere event dedicated to the musical genre associated with the great French Gypsy guitarist, Django Reinhardt. During the week our Django Camp brings together serious students of the style from across North America and abroad for intensive study and “djamming” with world class artists. On Friday and Saturday night these same artists offer us all a grand finale of concerts at the Academy of Music.

On Saturday we close our week with a performance featuring Serge Krief and Tim Kliphuis with special guest Emmanuel Kassimo. Krief first came to wider prominence in the late 1980’s when he was among those featured in the documentary, Django’s Legacy. Since then he has been among the most widely respected and influential of Parisian Gypsy jazz guitarists – a teacher and mentor to many of the younger artists we have featured at Django in June over the years. Tim Kliphuis is well-loved by Django in June audiences and well-known elsewhere as one of the world’s leading experts on Swing violin in the tradition of Stéphane Grappelli.

Opening this evening will be Giacomo Smith (clarinet) and Kourosh Kanani (guitar), both coming to us from London, and undoubtedly joined by other artists on the Django in June staff whom you can learn all about right here:
