Margaret Maher and the Celtification of Emily Dickinson - ACADEMY OF MUSIC

Wilde Irish Women presents

Margaret Maher and the Celtification of Emily Dickinson

Saturday, March 23 at 7:30 pm through 9:00 pm

After an acclaimed tour of Ireland in September 2023 Wilde Irish Women perform Margaret Maher and the Celtification of Emily Dickinson on March 23rd.

This is the 6th original dramatic and musical work written by Rosemary Caine and performed by Wilde Irish Women since their founding in 2003.

The story is told in original lyrics and music with songs from Emily’s poems, and some poetic Irish artistic license.
Maggie is played by Moe McElligot, Emily by Stephanie Carlson.
The band features Chris Devine – multi instrumentalist, Rick Mauran – drummer, Lynn Lovell – bass, Michael Morgan – guitar, and Rosemary Caine – harp.

How did a lowly Irish maid -Maggie- manage to command the respect and trust of her beloved mistress Emily? Maggie’s descendants lay claim to the integrity of word of mouth. They passed on their belief that Maggie defied Emily’s death bed decree to burn her poems. That may be part of the reason we have so many.

About Wilde Irish Women
Founded by Rosemary Caine of Ardee, County Louth, Ireland, Wilde Irish Women is a collaborative performance group based in Western Massachusetts. The ensemble comprises musicians, actors and singers who have been together since the early 2000’s. Its mission is to illuminate through original music and story the lives of Irish geniuses of literature and legend — saints and sinners included! The focus is on Irish culture, as well as the forgotten women of Irish history and always delivered with Caine’s signature good humor.

When Rosemary arrived in Western Massachusetts in the 70’s, there was a dearth of Irish Arts. Since no one quite gave her her own Irish Embassy, she set about establishing a group of like minded lovers of music and theatre. She has written five previous musicals for the ensemble: Wilde Irish Women (2004); Women In Arms (2006, with Old Deerfield Productions); Last High Queen Of Ireland (with Old Deerfield Productions); The Wilde Irish Women of James Joyce (2015); and The Easter Rising Of 1916 (2016).
