Welcome to the Academy of Music Theatre’s Youth Programs!
At the Academy we believe that live theater and music are powerful tools of human connection. Our classes, workshops, and productions for kids are no exception. Since 2011, the Academy has been educating school-aged students about artistic expression, self-confidence, and teamwork by engaging kids in theater, music and dance.
After a decade of programming, and with the support of our wonderful community, our offerings have grown in scope and intensity, and as a result we serve students from 6 to 18 years all year long! Come be a part of the Academy and experience theater, beauty, and community from the inside out!
All participants in Academy Youth Programs are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with two weeks of immunity after their second vaccine dose. Booster shots are highly encouraged for those eligible. If proof of vaccination is not possible, students must present a negative COVID test result at the time of entry into a class or activity. Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact education director, Susan Dillard, at firstname.lastname@example.org or (413) 320-4403.
A Note from the Education Director:
Why musical theater?
Musical theater, just like our American society, is a beautiful mosaic full of a vast array of ideas, styles, cultural influences, and history. Now, at the beginning of the 21st century, I believe that musical theater is one of the most exciting and accessible tools through which we can learn about ourselves and our fellow humans.
Using music, dance, comedy, and drama to communicate with an audience can be one of the most fulfilling experiences that a performer can accomplish – and the performers learn about themselves and others just as much as their audience is wowed by a spectacular dance number, or taps their toe to a favorite show tune.
That’s because musical theater is not just one thing. This craft that has been associated with traditionalism is evolving. By taking part in one of our youth programs, we hope to make students and audiences alike consider new perspectives, be challenged as an artist, and appreciate beauty for the sake of beauty.
Whether performing is a hobby or potential career path, being a part of our Youth Program family teaches you about yourself and about our world.
The world is a stage and the Academy of Music Theatre can be YOUR stage! Enjoy the show!
